Recovery

Sorry for the absence. October was a busy month

Let's get this blog going again.

The digital painting below is a color study for an acrylic painting I recently completed:

These little guys are off-model sketches of the 1941 KU Jayhawk. They were commissioned as inspiration for a KU-themed tattoo.

Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey thumbnails

Some preliminary sketches for a commissioned piece I'm working on.

Each sketch is around 2" x 3". I think doodles are just as beautiful if not more so than the final piece.

Watercolor house

A recent commissioned piece and soon-to-be Christmas present. 18" x 14", ink and watercolor on paper.

Sketching Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs is fun to draw because of his simple yet iconic appearance. He's a ready-made cartoon character, really.

Various sketches with commentary

After he passed, I watched his Stanford Commencement Address. I lifted a line from his speech and combined it with the final drawing from above, and made a little inspirational wallet card.

It's a little dinged up from sliding in and out of my wallet

Doodle magic

This little thumbnail doodle took me all of two minutes, but it has more personality and dynamism than most of my finished work. Why can't all stages of the artistic process be this spontaneous and intuitive? WHY?

Tribute to Ben Richards

The Running Man is one of the all-time great science fiction movies. Mainly because it has Arnold running around in a sweet Adidas shoulder-padded jumpsuit, finding creative ways to kill people and survive the ultimate manhunt.

Here's how I went about creating my painted portrait of Arnold's character, Ben Richards:
